Extractions
Our dentists make every effort to preserve your natural teeth. However, extractions are necessary when decay has made the tooth unsalvageable or when you have an advanced periodontal disease. When a tooth is malformed, damaged, impacted or ingrown, different procedures are used, but all extractions are considered surgery. Depending on which tooth is removed, we can offer you a replacement in the form of a dental implant or oral prosthetic.
FAQ
Do I need my tooth extracted?
If your tooth is damaged, decayed, malformed (causing issues with your bite and other teeth), or impacted (ingrown or beneath the gums), it may need to be extracted. Scheduling an appointment with our Dental team will give us the chance to see and diagnose the condition of your tooth.
What should I expect during an extraction procedure?
Step 1: Numbing of the tooth and surrounding gums
Step 2: Extraction of the tooth by various methods, our dental staff will explain these methods before your procedure.
Step 3: Closing the socket or space left vacant by the extracted tooth, this is important in cleaning of bacteria and stopping the bleeding left over by the missing tooth.
Step 4: Stitching, controlling bleeding, and minimizing the swelling
How long is the healing process?
Post-extractive care typically lasts a few days after the procedure and is very important in limiting excessive bleeding and bacterial growth around the area of the newly extracted tooth. Our Dental team will go over the proper methods of cleaning and maintaining comfort of the area.
